Golden State opens trek at Milwaukee

Basketball Betting Lines

02/27/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Golden State Warriors begin a five-game road trip when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks tonight at the Bradley Center.

This is the second and final meeting of the campaign between the clubs. On December 2nd, Maurice Williams hit the go-ahead jumper with 53.5 seconds left to lift Milwaukee to a 115-110 win over Golden State at ORACLE Arena.

The Bucks have won two in a row in the series. Golden State has won two straight after losing its last four at Milwaukee.

Golden State enters tonight's contest on a two-game losing streak. On Sunday, Maurice Evans poured in a career-high 26 points and superstar Kobe Bryant also netted 26 to power the Lakers to a 102-85 rout of the Warriors at ORACLE Arena.

Monta Ellis scored 22 and Jason Richardson netted 15 in the loss for the Warriors, who have dropped four of their last six games overall. Andris Biedrins had 16 rebounds for Golden State, which shot just 2-of-19 from three- point range and was 9-of-21 from the foul line.

The Warriors, who have dropped three in a row as the visitor, are a dismal 6-21 on the road this season. They will also visit Chicago, New York, Washington and Detroit on the current swing.

Milwaukee tries to win back-to-back games. Williams and Michael Redd scored 26 points apiece as the Bucks crushed the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-90, on Saturday at the Bradley Center.

Charlie Bell added 13 points in the win for the Bucks, who snapped a seven- game losing streak. Ruben Patterson also scored 13 points and dished out a career-high 10 assists for Milwaukee, which shot 12-of-25 from beyond the arc.

On the injury front for Milwaukee, guard Earl Boykins (sprained right thumb) is questionable for tonight's contest. Boykins, who was acquired in a trade from Denver earlier in the season, is averaging 14.8 points and 4.3 assists per game this season.

The Bucks are 12-12 at home in 2006-07. They will visit Chris Bosh and the Toronto Raptors on Friday at Air Canada Centre.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup

September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com.  The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.

Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to  name a  few.  Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR.  They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.

The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer.  Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.

Football Betting: Defensive Rookie of the Year Awards

Oddsmakers have released the odds for the 2009 AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award and Seattle Seahawks linebacker Aaron Curry has been made the opening favorite.

Bet on NFL Football

Seattle took Curry with the fourth overall pick in April's NFL draft and plan on inserting him into its starting lineup right away. The Hawks traded linebacker Julian Peterson in the offseason, so Curry is expected to have a significant role in Seattle's defense next year and that's one of the primary reasons he is the favorite to win the NFL ROY Award.

Oddsmakers from online sportsbook MySportsbook.com have made Curry a 5/1 favorite to win this year's NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Given that he was the best defensive prospect in this year's draft and how he'll have plenty of opportunities to make plays in '09, Curry offers a ton of value at 5/1.

Another thing working for Curry is the position he plays. A linebacker has won the defensive ROY award six straight times and eight of the last nine years. Jerod Mayo, Patrick Willis, DeMeco Ryans, Shawne Merriman, Jonathan Vilma, Terrell Suggs, Kendrell Bell and Brian Urlacher were the most recent linebackers to take home the award.

Following Curry at 5/1 are Tyson Jackson (Chiefs) at 7/1, James Laurinaitas (Rams) at 8/1, Brian Orakpo (Redskins) at 10/1, Rey Maualuga (Bengals) at 10/1 and Jerry Peria (Falcons) at 10/1.

All the players mentioned above are expected to start for their respective teams, but Jackson and Peria are going to have a tough time being recognized on a national level given they're both defensive linemen. D-linemen rarely put up the numbers that it takes to win an individual award like the ROY.

A couple of players with some value are Clay Matthews (Packers) at 12/1 and Larry English (Chargers) at 15/1. Matthews is expected to start at outside linebacker in Green Bay's new 3-4 defense and could rack up a ton of tackles. English, who was an impressive player at Northern Illinois, is expected to be a situational pass rusher for the Chargers and could rack up a ton of sacks.
